And NBA expert Colin Cowherd believes the New Orleans Pelicans star is being very clever about securing his move.
Davis has impressed again this season and has made it clear titles are his priority over money moving forward in his career.
Cowherd thinks playing with LeBron James could take Davis to the next level.
He said on The Herd: “Anthony Davis is doing it right, right before the break up you drop hints and a month ago, three weeks ago, he said it wasn’t about the money, it was about legacy.
“That’s one of the hints you drop before you break up because New Orleans can absolutely pay him the most money.
“But he said a few weeks ago it is not about the money, it is about legacy. Well you’re going to win more with LeBron.”
Cowherd believes NFL star Antonio Brown could learn a lot from Davis and the way he is handling his potential exit from the Pelicans.
He added: “He’s also making himself very attractive because Antonio Brown is breaking up the wrong way.
“He’s having tantrums, missing games, going on Instagram, that’s going to turn off a lot of teams. A lot of good teams will stay away from Antonio Brown.
“They don’t want that toxic person in their locker room. Anthony Davis is breaking up the right way.
“Play your butt off, put up big numbers, talk about wanting to win titles over getting money and then saying: ‘I’m frustrated because we’re not wining enough’.”
And former team-mate of LeBron Dahntay Jones suggests Davis will look to leave New Orleans in the summer with the Lakers lurking.
“I don’t think he should just go to the media and dog them out,” Jones said on The Herd.
“They’ve been loyal to him and he’s been as loyal as he can to them.
“Now at this point of his career he’s just like, ‘this is what I want. I want to be considered one of the greats so I have to win now.
“‘I have to win for a long period of time and right now I don’t think that’s something you can do for me.”
