Ms Soubry, a prominent supporter of a second EU referendum, was taunted during live TV interviews in Westminster on Monday.

She was later harangued by a group of men as she made her way back to parliament.

Ms Soubry posted about the incidents on Twitter: “Apparently MPs & politicians are meant to accept it as part of the democratic process.”

Dozens of MPs wrote to the Metropolitan Police commissioner to express “serious concerns” about the “deteriorating public order and security situation” in Westminster.
