From a Di Maria corner, Presnel Kimpembe was left unmarked at the far post and he side-footed in a volley into the roof of the net.
In the PSG celebrations, Di Maria turned towards the Manchester United fans and berated them.
And footage appeared to show Di Maria saying “f*** off” several times.
Ex-Man Utd and England defender Phil Neville said on BBC Radio 5 live: “You can feel it coming the last few minutes it’s almost as if United are waiting to concede a goal.
“It was poor defending from Nemanja Matic, who has arguably been United’s best player- a brilliant ball into the box from di Maria.
“That goal has been coming and Manchester United haven’t started yet in the second half.”
Di Maria, who flopped for United in the 2014-15 season, was booed by onlooking supporters as he came off the PSG team bus before the match.
Then after the match begun, his every touch was jeered by the home fans.
Then just before half-time Ashley Young shoved Di Maria off the pitch and into the fencing on the side of the pitch.
PSG’s stars surrounded the referee and a small melee ensued between the players.
In the 60th minute, Kylian Mbappe doubled PSG’s lead when Di Maria played a ball into the six-yard box and the striker finished coolly past David de Gea.
Neville said: “That’s what happens when you’ve got speed on the pitch. Ashley Young got aught forward.
“The speed from Mbappe was amazing – that was a brilliant finish. Devastating counter-attack from PSG.
“This kid is special, he is fast. United have got to not concede another goal and take one of their own to France.”
