Celtic host Rangers in the Old Firm on Sunday afternoon (midday kick off).

Gerrard’s men must win to have any hope of challenging Neil Lennon’s men for the Scottish Premiership this season.

Rangers trail Celtic by 10 points with eight games remaining.

The atmosphere during the Old Firm is always ferocious, however, Gerrard has insisted his Rangers stars will not be scared on Sunday.

“I’ve never seen fans win a football match, it will be loud but it won’t be a lion’s den,” Gerrard said at his press conference on Friday.

“A lion’s den is when four lions jump over a cage and you fear for your life.

“You have to thrive in this atmosphere. If any of my players don’t fancy it they are at the wrong club.

“This time we won’t have the power of Ibrox behind us which was a big help, but the players have to have that mentality to go and get the job done.

“If you go in with the wrong mentality you won’t win these games. You have to take responsibility individually and collectively.

“We understand the gap in the league, for us, it is can we affect that? Celtic are clear favourites and this is probably our last opportunity to make it more interesting than it is at the moment.”

And Celtic fans have taken to social media to mock the Liverpool hero, with many supporters claiming Gerrard has embarrassed himself.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “What is he on about? It’s all about to unravel for him. Liverpool under 18s await.”

Another added: “He’s finally cracked!”

“He’s embarrassing himself there. Immediately prior he’d talked about the power of the Ibrox crowd in the last game. He’s lost,” said a fellow Hoops supporter.

Another fan said: “C’mon Stevie, you know better than that, just admit that you are scared of Sunday.”

“Gone before the season ends. He is starting to lose the plot,” added a Celtic supporter.
