It’s no secret that the Red Devils have made the Portuguese star a top target this summer as they look to completely rebuild their squad.
Manchester United are looking to sign at least two midfielders in order to replace Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera.
According to Sky Sports man Kaveh Solhekol, Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho is currently in London, and there is a reason for supporters to be optimistic it’s to talk with United chiefs.
“I know a lot of United fans are excited about Bruno Fernandes, the Sporting midfielder,” Solhekol told the Sky Sports News Transfer Centre.
“He played so well last season and scored more than 30 goals from midfield and played so well in the Nations League for Portugal.
“We know that his agent is in England, in London, is he having talks with United? Because United have offices in central London.
“People have started putting clips of his best bits on social media and a lot of United fans have been sharing those today.
“We know United this summer are looking for younger, hungrier players, is he somebody who could thrive in the Premier League?
“Moves from Portugal don’t always pay off but remember, United signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting as well.”
That gives United a clear run to conclude a deal, should they wish to go ahead with the move.
Sporting’s president Frederico Varandas has admitted the Primeira Liga side are expecting to earn a record amount from the sale.
“It could be the most expensive sale of Sporting,” he told Radio Observar.
“The most expensive so far was João Mário, for €40m (£36m).
“There have been only talks for Bruno Fernandes, for now.
“I can only say that if a player leaves that can earn us millions, we will be prepared to attack the market.
“Always in a sustained way. I want Bruno Fernandes to stay, but everyone knows the current situation.”
