There was a buzz around Wimbledon building over the last few days leading up to Murray and Williams’ mixed doubles debut.
Mixed doubles rarely gets the top billing at a Grand Slam, but the chance to see two of the greatest tennis players partner up had sport fans excited about what it would look like.
Williams earlier this week joked that the real reason she wanted to team up with Murray was to experience being an honorary Brit at Wimbledon.
The 37-year-old is always well supported wherever she goes, but the prospect of playing alongside Britain’s famed tennis star had also surprisingly led to some nerves from the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion.
But once the two of them stepped on court, they immediately clicked and raced to a comfortable victory over Alexa Guarachi and Andreas Mies.
Williams admitted that pressure almost got the better of her leading up to the match.
But she also joked that the hype surrounding the match had her wishing she could have been sitting in the stands to watch it.
“At some point I started feeling a lot of pressure,” she said.
“Oh, my God, I have to do well because this match is so hyped that I want to see it.
“I didn’t even want to be in it, I kind of just wanted to watch it.
“Maybe I’ll try to get a video of it or watch it somewhere.
“Overall I think I was able to handle my nerves pretty good, do better than I thought I was going to do.”
