Kevin Pietersen thinks England will win the Cricket World Cup this summer, he revealed on Twitter.
The England legend made the bold claim after India were knocked out of the competition by New Zealand earlier today.
Virat Kohli’s team looked set to reach the final after The Black Caps finished their 50 overs on 239-8, but were themselves bowled out for just 221.
That leaves just New Zealand, England and Australia left in the competition, and Pietersen thinks it’s England’s to lose.
Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was delighted to have made it through to the World Cup final.
After the match against India, he said: “We’ve had to skin it over the round-robin, so it’s been quite different.
“A lot of heart has been shown by the guys so far but we’re keeping our feet on the ground. It was a great semi-final and we’re happy to be on the right side of it.”
Kohli said that the loss had broken Indian hearts, but they’ll come back stronger.
“I’m very disappointed,” he said. “We played outstanding cricket throughout this tournament.
“To go out on 45 minutes of bad cricket is saddening. It breaks our heart because you work so hard to build momentum, finish number one in the table, then a spell of bad cricket and you’re out of the tournament, but you have to accept it.
“We will come out better cricketers because of this setback.”
India found themselves three wickets down with just five runs on the board at the start of their run chase.
The game was always running against them from that point, and while India did well to stay in the tie until the final few overs, it would’ve needed a monumental comeback to recover.
