The Duke of Sussex has posted a previously unseen photo of him with Archie and the Prince of Wales on social media to wish his father a happy birthday.
Charles, who has spent his 71st birthday in Mumbai, India, can be seen looking on at his grandson, cradled in Prince Harry’s arms, in an image which was taken at Archie’s christening in July.
Harry posted the image on the Sussexes’ Instagram account, writing: “Happy birthday to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales – Sir, Pa, Grandpa!” It was followed by a birthday cake emoji.
The black and white image taken by Chris Allerton shows the infant royal in his baptism robes.
It comes a day after it emerged that Harry, his wife Meghan and Archie, would not be spending Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham.
A spokesperson for the couple told Sky News they were “looking forward to extended family time” at the end of the month.
The spokesperson added: “Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the duchess’ mother Doria Ragland.”
It is not yet known where they will be for Christmas, but the spokesperson said the decision “has the support of Her Majesty the Queen”.
Prince Charles, who is on a two-day official royal visit abroad, spent the day meeting youngsters supported in their education by a charitable foundation working in collaboration with his British Asian Trust.
They gave him a card, as well as a present featuring the stories of Hindu deity Krishna, told with tiny figures in three bonsai gardens.
Charles also had a garland of flowers placed around his neck and the children sang happy birthday to him, and the royal shared a chocolate cake with them.
On the first day of his overseas visit, the prince also met singer Katy Perry who had heard about the prince’s charity and joined other supporters to learn more about it.
The British Asian Trust was set up by the royal in 2007 and aims to tackle widespread poverty and inequality in South Asia.
