Bruno Fernandes is set to jet to England before the middle of the week ahead of his move to Manchester United, according to reports. The Portugal international is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer target for the January window.
United boss Solskjaer has personally ordered the signing of Fernandes amid his desire to sign a playmaker.
The club have long admired James Maddison but realise there’s no chance of Leicester parting with the England international midway through the season.
Jack Grealish is another who is liked at United, particularly amid his stunning form for Aston Villa this season.
With Villa in the middle of a relegation dogfight, however, there’s zero chance of them letting their star player go at this moment in time.
Now, Fernandes is in their sights.
And Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha claim the 25-year-old is set to jet to England before the middle of the week to complete his move.
United have seen their current playmakers struggle for form this season.
Jesse Lingard has toiled despite Solskjaer giving him a final chance back in the summer, with the England international yet to score or assist in the Premier League this season.
There’s a belief inside United that he could be on the move, too, particularly after his decision to link up with super-agent Mino Raiola.
Juan Mata was given a new United contract in the summer.
But, Saturday’s 4-0 win over Norwich City aside, the Spain international has struggled for form.
