Manchester United target Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly demanded Ed Woodward be taken of footballing matters if he is to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the end of the season. The Argentine has admirers within Old Trafford and is currently available, having been taken off footballing matters.
On Monday night, Beyond the Pitch and talkSPORT journalist Phil Brown claimed that United had held secret discussions with Pochettino about taking over at the end of the season.
With the Red Devils struggling under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he said: “What I’ve been told is United have been talking with Pochettino for a few weeks now.
“He doesn’t want the job until the end of the season.
“He doesn’t want the job until certain requirements have been met.
“I’ve been told by someone who would know, who I trust 100 per cent and who has given me stuff in the past and been bang on so is clearly informed.
Man Utd target Mauricio Pochettino has issued Ed Woodward demand
Man Utd could sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and replace him with Mauricio Pochettino
“I can’t say who that individual is.
“He doesn’t want the job until the summer.
“He demands a director of football guaranteed and the director of football cannot be Ed Woodward.
“He wants full freedom of first-team matters, including who can be sold.
“Wants Ed Woodward to step away from anything football at all and funds to be made available for purchases.”
It appears Woodward may have to give up his power if he’s to land Pochettino.
Publicly, the club have insisted they’re standing by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite their mixed form.
But Brown’s comment suggest they’re preparing for life without the Norwegian at the helm.
United have also briefed they’re happy with their recruitment process and how things are going behind the scenes.
But Pochettino’s demands appear clear and whether or not they meet them is something only time will tell.
