The San Antonio Police Department has arrested the man they believe is responsible for the execution-style murder of Detective Benjamin Marconi Sunday morning.
Police officials have identified and arrested Otis Tyrone McKane in connection with the murder of 50-year-old Detective Marconi. He was taken into custody without incident at about 4:30 p.m. Central Time on Monday afternoon, Fox News reported. McKane had been inside police headquarters about four hours before he assassinated the 20-year police veteran.

Detective Marconi had initiated a traffic stop near the San Antonio Police Department headquarters. While he was working on the traffic summons for the driver, McKane allegedly pulled up in a black sedan behind the detective’s vehicle. He then walked up to the driver’s side of the patrol car and shot Marconi once in the head, Police Chief William McManus stated. McKane then allegedly reached into the vehicle and shot Marconi a second time before walking back to his car and leaving the scene.

Police searched for McKane’s vehicle for about 30 hours before finding him on Interstate 10 near Ackerman Road, the San Antonio Express-News reported. He was immediately arrested. A female companion and a 2-year-old child were also in the vehicle at the time of McKane’s arrest Monday afternoon.
McKane has a previous criminal history, the San Antonio newspaper reported. In 2012, the accused cop-killer was charged with bodily injury of a family member. After pleading no contest to the charge, he was sentenced to spend 60 days in the county jail.
Chief McManus told reporters that they believe McKane entered the police headquarters building at about 7:45 a.m. on Sunday morning. He reportedly spoke with a clerk and left a short time later. Police have not revealed why he was in the headquarters or what he asked the clerk.
It appears the sole motivation for the shooting was that Marconi was a uniformed police officer. “I think the uniform was the target,” Chief McManus said in a press conference.
