The morning following televised award shows always proves to hold more weight in what actually was of influence than the lengthy event itself. Sure, it’s nice to know who won what, but most of the time it seems our real attention is on the performances or speeches given in between – especially when they are of real value.
For example, the morning after having watched an award show we may, as viewers, talk about the moments that really wowed us, and others (much like myself) may wake up to trending topics on google and see what they’re all about. That’s pretty much what happened this morning.
If you’re reading this, it’s more than likely you know who Oprah Winfrey is. As a public figure and an over 8 figure income earner, talk show host, actress, philanthropist, and so much more – she has surely made her way into our lives as a household name and into some of our hearts. With that said, it’s not uncommon for her name to pop up in our feeds as a ‘trending topic’ but with so many mentions of her and her Golden Globes appearance, I felt it necessary to read more into why.
Last night at the Golden Globes she was awarded the 2018 Cecil B. de Mille award. During her acceptance, she took her time at the podium to give a beautiful speech that moved the crowd and filled it with the ‘who’s who’ of Hollywood, most of whom were gleaming with joy and listened closely to her every word.
“Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have..”
It’s important to share this speech because it embodies what we here at CE have written about in detail over the course of these past few months (as well as our overall message & ethos since the beginning). Last year we, as a collective, saw much coming to the surface in regards to child exploitation, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. Amid all of this, the rise of the hashtag #metoo was born and we saw many celebrities, friends and maybe even family members come forth and tell their story. It’s tough at times to look at the truth of the matter and really reflect from a deeper level how this can really impact us and help create change in our world, but as stated above, it is important we do so and that we do so from a neutral and understanding perspective so that we can learn and grow together.
“I want all of the girls watching here now to know, that a new day is on the horizon.”
Watch the video below and let’s reflect on what is being said.
