Sweden testing handheld EOD sensor units

June 2 (UPI) — The Swedish Armed Forces are conducting comparison tests on handheld mine detectors as part of a plan to replace and upgrade the equipment.

The tests on units from seven companies are taking place at the Swedish EOD and Demining Centre, or SWEDEC, staffed by military and civilian experts. EOD stands for explosive ordinance disposal.

The tests started May 29 and will continue until June 16, the Swedish Armed Forces said in a post to their website.

“A large number of manufacturers of mine detectors worldwide have submitted their applications to take part in this event,” the Swedish Armed Forces said. “The applications received have been subjected to a selection process and a shortlist of eight products from seven companies has been chosen.
