Victoria Beckham has revealed the design for her annual World AIDS Day T-shirt, but this year she’s recruited a new collaborator to help illustrate a truly statement print; her five year-old daughter, Harper.

‘For the last few years I have designed an exclusive World Aids Day T-shirt to raise money and awareness on this important day,’ the designer explains. ‘This year, for the first time, and along with a little help from Harper, I’ve created an adults T-shirt with a matching mini-version for children too.’
It’s hoped that Harper’s drawing will help bring even greater awareness to Born Free Africa, specifically promoting their continued work on the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) process. On sale from today at the designer’s Dover Street store and on the Victoria Beckham website, the tees are priced at £90 and £45 for the adult’s and child’s sizes respectively, with 100% of the profits going directly to this UNAIDS initiative.

Victoria, who has brought awareness to the cause as a UNAIDS Global Goodwill Ambassador since 2014, recently returned from a trip to Kenya with UNAIDS and Born Free, visiting the facilities provided by the charity with her eldest son, Brooklyn, and bringing awareness to a new Start Free, Stay Free, AIDS Free initiative.
‘[This is] a huge honour and a role I am taking very seriously,’ says Victoria of what her humanitarian role means to her. ‘I have met some incredible women right across Africa – strong, powerful women, who took me into their homes and told me their stories.’
As a mother herself, Beckham has been particularly passionate about teaching other mothers, both about their own health and that of their children. She has previously spoken at United Nations conferences in New York, and visited many of the charity’s key education projects across Africa. ‘Among many of the learnings from my first trip to Africa was the process of PMTCT, the ‘Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission’ (of HIV),’ she explains. ‘With simple, readily available medication, Mothers with HIV could prevent the transmission of the disease onto their unborn babies, and therefore a whole new generation could be, should be, born free of the virus.’
‘In my most recent trip to Kenya, which still has one of the highest rates of HIV, I visited facilities with UNAIDS and Born Free to highlight the launch of a new initiative, Start Free, Stay Free = Aids Free,’ she adds. ‘This is a global plan that aims to support the initial mother-to-child transmission process but also to educate and empower teenage girls and boys against HIV, and so continue on the path of an AIDS free generation for the future.’
It seems Beckham is already initiating Harper in the charitable powers which come with global fame- and an eye for design.
Victoria Beckham’s World AIDS Day T-shirt for 2016 is on sale now.
