The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is almost upon us. Come November 30th, the fashion world will have arrived in Paris, the body guards will have released the Fantasy Bra, and the world’s most glamorous supermodels will have put their wings on, ready to take to the most famous lingerie catwalk in the world. Here is everything we know so far about this year’s show…
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is heading to Paris…
The last time the Victoria’s Secret Angels hit the road was in 2014, flying its supermodel squad on a Victoria Secret-branded jet to London. Now the televised fashion show, which sees an army of angels walking down a glitter catwalk in fantasy underwear and theatrical angle wings, is once again showing outside of the United States in Paris, France. After weeks of rumours, Victoria’s Secret confirmed the location with a video which shows the angels receiving text messages telling them to ‘pack their bags.’
Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and the Weeknd will perform…
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show isn’t so much about showcasing the new underwear trends that we will all be wearing, but about putting on a glitter-fuelled, over-the-top performance. Each year they have a line-up of chart-topping artists, including the likes of Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift. This year’s performers are Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and the Weeknd, the brand has confirmed.
Which models will star in the show?
Returning Victoria’s Secret favourites include Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Martha Hunt, Taylor Hill and Karlie Kloss. Last year there were 37 models in total, making this one of the biggest, most important model casting opportunities on the entire fashion calendar. The brand have released this video, showing how director John Pfeiffer decides who should make the cut.
Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid will both walk in the show…
Although not all models are bestowed with the ‘Angel’ status (last year there were only 15 angels including Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, and Lily Aldridge) and neither of the Hadid sisters has yet earned their ‘wings’.
Victoria’s Secret employee Jen Waldmen appeared to confirm that Bella Hadid is walking for the first time in the show when she posted a picture of them together at a casting with the caption: “One of us made the fashion show cut.” Bella later took to Instagram to confirm the news, writing, “I can’t believe it! There is no better feeling than being confirmed for the @victoriassecretfashion show !!! What a dream come true..I feel so appreciative and excited! Thank you for this opportunity to walk next to some of the most inspiring and incredible women in the world! “
Bella’s sister Gigi Hadid, who made her VS runway debut last November, is also set to walk this year, officially announcing the news on her own Instagram.
“There is no feeling in the world like walking down this runway,” Gigi wrote on the social media platform. “I’m elated to say I’ll be returning to the @VictoriasSecret Fashion Show this year. Thank you @ed_razek for putting on the show that has been one of my greatest motivators since I was a teenage fan of the Angels, and for making this dream come true for me again. It will forever be an honor. Can’t wait to join the beautiful and inspiring women that are the #vsfs2016 lineup. See you in Paris.”
Jasmine Tookes will wear this year’s Fantasy Bra…
In the world of Victoria’s Secret the biggest accolade for an angel is to be selected to wear the Fantasy Bra in the Fashion Show. This year Jasmine Tookes will wear a $3 million emerald and diamond bra (which weighs more than 450 carats) just one year after she became an angel. Tookes told Elle that to be fitted for the bra she had to be in a plaster cast for three hours to create a mold: “I almost couldn’t breathe because I’d move too much and it’d mess up the measurements.”
Will there be a theme to this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?
Every year the show is divided into sections, each offering an opportunity for the Victoria’s Secret design team to play with different creative themes. Apparently the stylists are taking this year’s setting, the Grand Palais in Paris, as their inspiration, too, preparing Marie Antoinette-esque looks with a French boudoir theme. The brand released another video to show how artisans prepare props for the show, which gives a glimpse of wings made from pink satin bows and lace.
