And plenty of attention was on Icardi’s wife Wanda Nara before, during and after the match.
Nara is Icardi’s wife and agent and regularly speaks on behalf of the player.
She has often spoken of transfer rumours linking Icardi to different clubs, while helped broker contract talks with Inter that has so-far kept the Argentina international happy.
Icardi is Inter’s star man and came up against Juventus gem Ronaldo tonight in Turin, where Juve won 1-0 thanks to a Mario Mandzukic goal.
Icardi and Ronaldo are also battling it out for the golden boot in Italy this term.
But Nara is not a fan of the Portugal international and stood by her husband when asked to compare their goalscoring records.
“It’s not easy to adapt to Italian football,” she said last month.
“Icardi is on a par with Cristiano Ronaldo. He played three games fewer than CR7 (which is why he has fewer goals).
“I’d like to see Ronaldo on the bench against Genoa (in November).
“Mauro didn’t play against them and he could have scored five goals.”
Nara also claimed her husband is friends with fellow-Argentine Lionel Messi – who has been a rival of Ronaldo at the top of world football for a decade.
“Mauro has great memories of Barcelona, he grew up there and he is a very close friend of Messi,” she added.
Juventus beat Inter in the Friday night game in Serie A to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Icardi failed to record a single shot during the match but Inter boss Spalletti was all praise for his striker.
“Icardi did what he had to do,” the manager said.
“He ran hard and to be honest did far better tonight than in other occasions to track back and get the ball, combining with the midfield.”
After the match, Juve manager Max Allegri said: “I moved Mandzukic to the left, Paulo Dybala played much better and we had a very different performance in terms of intensity and pressure. We allowed Inter practically nothing in the second half and we had several more chances.
“Matteo Politano was putting pressure on, so I switched the full-backs to make the most of our characteristics and cover where needed, pushing on the other.
“Cancelo struggled a little with Politano in the first half, mainly the transitions. We’re working on Cancelo’s defensive approach and it must be recognised he has improved a great deal.
“I asked the lads this evening to be efficient and effective.
“We were only half that in the first period, but then we started to hold the ball with greater patience, were more organised and solid. After that, the quality of the players inevitably emerges.
“Cancelo did very well, I thought Dybala was excellent, but I had to introduce Douglas Costa for his pace out wide.
“We knew the championship wouldn’t end today, but we still absolutely had to avoid defeat.”
