Around 120 firefighters tackle ‘significant’ Croydon blaze

Around 120 firefighters and 20 fire engines are tackling a blaze at a self-storage warehouse in Croydon, the London Fire Brigade has said.

Crews were called shortly before 7.50pm and remain at the scene in Purley Way, but the cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

No injuries have been reported.

Croydon station manager Jason Jones said: “This is a significant fire in a large self-storage warehouse. There is a lot of smoke in the local area and we’d ask residents to keep their doors and windows closed.

“Thankfully no one was inside the property at the time of the fire and there are no reports of any injuries.

Pictures posted on social media suggest the fire is at a Shurgard facility.
