Marvel Teases an Inhumans Trailer, Miles Morales and a Bug Hero Team Up

Latest news

The Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps growing bigger and bigger, and since two new additions are premiering soon, Marvel is happy to keep tantalizing us with little updates. Today, the most substantial news comes out of the upcoming Inhumans TV show. We’ll get a full trailer on Thursday, but Marvel released a teaser today. Because once again, we somehow ended up in the reality where trailers for trailers are a thing. But hey, Marvel’s stuff still looks really cool, so any small glimpse of footage is worth looking at.

So what do we have there? Well, it opens with a shot of Black Bolt, Medusa, and Maximus the Mad walking ominously down a stairway. We knew these costumes looked cool, but seeing them in motion is even better. There are going to be a lot of amazing-looking Medusa cosplayers at Comic Cons this year. The next shot is of the beautiful Hawaiian setting, further confirming that no matter what the writing of this show turns out to be, it’s going to look real good. Finally, there’s a shot of Maximus, played by Iwan Rheon, in a tense standoff with… someone. I guess we’ll find out who on Thursday when the full trailer comes out.

Inhumans premieres on ABC November 3, 2017.

Now let’s turn to MCU additions that are happening sooner. Spider-Man: Homecoming is almost out. But just because we haven’t even seen the movie yet doesn’t mean it’s too early to start speculating about the sequel. In an interview with ScreenRant, Tom Holland confirmed that Iron Man won’t be in the sequel, but another MCU hero may be. There’s no word yet on who will join the web-slinger in the sequel (because the script isn’t even close to being written yet), but Tom Holland knows who he’d like to see Spider-Man team up with.

“Ant-Man would be my favorite,” Holland said. “I want to have like a bug bros session. I think that would be really cool.”

He’s right, that would make for a really fun movie. Not just because they’re both bug-based superheroes, but because they’re the most lighthearted heroes in Marvel’s roster. They’re the ones who are always ready with a wisecrack, and generally celebrate how much that annoys the people around them. They’re also both scientists and tinkerers. Tony Stark is too, of course, but Hank Pym is just geeky enough that he wouldn’t mind having an enthusiastic science discussion with Peter Parker.  A Spider-Man/Ant-Man team up would make for a great movie, and now that Tom Holland has brought it up, it’s all I want from the MCU.

Finally, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed another Spider-Man character is part of the MCU. No, it’s not Venom. That movie will still exist solely in Sony’s “adjunct” universe. During interviews for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Feige revealed that Miles Morales exists in the MCU, ScreenRant reports. So where is he? Well, for now, he’s just an Easter egg.

“All of those little things are just Easter eggs for fans until they’re something more than that. But anything that’s happened in the books is potential material for us. In the meantime, I think Miles is a big part of the animated movie that Sony’s making. But where we go … we definitely want you to go “He’s there. He’s there somewhere,” Feige said.

That may not be exactly what fans of the character want to hear, but it does leave the door open for Miles to become a bigger part of the MCU. Miles Morales, who was first introduced in the alternate-universe Ultimate Spider-Man, has become the second most popular character to put on the Spider Suit. Now that Peter Parker is the CEO of a multi-national corporation in the comics, Miles provides the street-level high school Spider-Man we all fell in love with in the first place. Fans have been longing for Miles to get his due on the big screen for a while, and were disappointed to see that Peter’s best friend in Homecoming looks a lot like Miles’s in the comics. That didn’t bode well for Miles’s chances of ever appearing in the MCU. Now that Feige himself has confirmed that he’s there, those chances are better. Let’s just hope he becomes more than an Easter Egg sooner rather than later.
